A lovely, ripe wine

Characteristics of the vintage

A damp, difficult, but generous year in terms of volume. The spread of cryptogamic diseases was a constant factor, exacerbated by a warm, exceptionally wet August. Rain and cool weather in between sunny periods made it difficult to obtain evenly ripe grapes.

Harvest dates: from 09/28/1992 to 10/12/1992

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon: 50%
Merlot: 43%
Cabernet Franc: 5%
Petit Verdot: 2%

Ageing potential

2015. To drink now.

Tasting

Tasting notes from Enrico Bernardo, 12/01/2011:

Lighter colour than its older brothers 1994 and 1993, with a garnet-red hue and brick-red highlights.
Closed-in on the nose, with overtones of tomato confit, coriander, and wood polish.
Well-balanced and light with a well-defined and very fresh aftertaste.

Tasting notes from Georges Lepré, 02/04/2009:

The moderately intense ruby color shows some orange nuances around the edge.

An expansive bouquet offers a palate of black fruits, dried fruits, pepper, cinnamon, leather, moss and licorice.

It exhibits a sweet mid-palate with a texture that tempers the tannins, nice fruit and delicate freshness. Balanced and measured, the wine slowly develops and finishes with a moderate persistence that maintains its delicious flavor.
This wine should be enjoyed before 2015.

Press Review

Wine Magazine, 05/01/2002
« " Tobacco and cigar-box aromas, hints of creamy summer fruits." TF
"A well structured, complex wine. Spicy, cedary notes on palate. Inky." LW »

Divo, 11/01/2000
« Assemblage : Cabernet Sauvignon 48%, Merlot 46%, Petit Verdot 6%.
Garde probable : 20 ans. »

Party for a dear friend, Nerval, 09/01/1999
« Received this bottle as a gift from a dear friend a couple of days before her long journey, and decided to open it for her. Dark ruby in the glass, with no signs of ageing. Soft, delicately perfumed nose that shows vanilla, raw meat, red berries, a bit of smokiness and lead pencil. On the palate it is a light-bodied wine with not tannins to speak of, a red berry profile packed with chocolate aromas, and a fair amount of sweetness. Lowish acidity.

Despite the vintage I found this to be a very drinkable, quite enjoyable wine, with astonishing ripeness for a 1992 and no sign of astringency. May be it was just a certain lean character on entry or real depth of taste and complexity that made it weaker than other vintages. A fnie wine that delivers typical Bordeaux aromas and real character, even if it lacks some magic. »
